We have a Clean Sweep Crane by Smart Industries (Circa 1986 - See
http://www.astralbase.com/arcade/crane) which has been working fine
since we aquired it about 5 months ago. Yesterday, the claw slopped
grabbing things. It drops, gets to the bottom where it touches the
plush, then goes back up but doesn't close.

I'm a novice at repairing these things. Can anyone suggest a few
places to start looking for a way to repair this issue?

Thanks in advance!
JOHN

Take the top lid of the claw off to get to the coil. Resoldier the broken
wire back on.

It seems to me like the claws are made specifically NOT to grab! LOL

Heh, thanks for the laughs folks! It's interesting. I looked at the
manual for this and it supposedly had 3 positions that you could set it
at based on the prize weight. Somewhere along the line, someone
swapped out what was I think supposed to be a switch with a rotary
dial. I can make it so you win every time or you don't have a chance
in the world.

My kids and I have found some cranes near where we live (wal marts
mostly) where you actually can win. They are 25 cents a play and we
can hit about once every 6 tries when they are full. That's actually
how we stocked ours. Small plush runs about 80-90 cents per item, so
it's been more fun for us to win the stuff to put in our game.
Actually what prompted us to buy it in the first place was we had won
so much, we didn't have somewhere to put it!

Oh, and I have had the experience as well being there when a machine
was stocked. I drooled. We were hitting about every second try. Had
to get a bag to carry it all away!
